39 Today, recognize and keep in mind that the Lord is God in heaven above and on earth below; there is no other. 40 Keep His statutes and commands, which I am giving you today, so that you and your children after you may prosper and so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you for all time."
My daily reading in the Old Testament is now in the book of Deuteronomy. Today's verses were a message to God's people given thousands of years ago but they serve as a remimder for us today to "recognize" God as sovereign and that there is "no other". There is no other being that should usurp His authority in our lives, and for that matter the world. That honoring of God, hallowing Him, revering Him and keeping Him shoould be something that continues to be passed on from generation to generation that it may "go well with us "to live long" in the land that He has given us.
The Doxology below is something that we would sing in church on a regular basis. Like these verses, it serves as a reminder of who God is and what it means to us.
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.
May we all "recognize Him" today as Lord and acknowledge that there is no other, and praise the One from whom all blessings flow.
