Verse of the Day 5/9

Verse of the Day 5/9

Isaiah 64:4-5
New Living Translation

For since the world began,
    no ear has heard
and no eye has seen a God like you,
who works for those who wait for him!
You welcome those who gladly do good,
    who follow godly ways.
But you have been very angry with us,
    for we are not godly.
We are constant sinners;
how can people like us be saved?

People have different opinions and images in their minds of "who God is".  Some think of "the man upstairs", kind of like a heavenly grandfather sitting back watching his grandchildren.  Some as a cosmic genie in a bottle, to go to when they need him to grant them their requests.  Some will see Him as the Creator who created the universe and then stepped back and let it run itselft.  Reading this verse the other day brought all of these things to mind and pointedly shows how wrong they are.  From the time the world began through the time of it's writing over 2000 years ago, there has never been a god like our God.  He doesn't sit back but "works for" (NLT) those who wait upon Him and trust in Him.

There is no other God like Him who sent His Son for us, who died for us "while we were yet sinners" (Romans 5:8). He is not only at work in our universe, He is at work in our very lives.  As the passage points out, He is the potter, we are the clay.  He created us and continues to form us into who He wants us to be.  We should think about what that means to us.

In the stars His handiwork I see,
On the wind He speaks with majesty,
Though He ruleth over land and sea,
What is that to me?
I will celebrate Nativity,
For it has a place in history,
Sure, He came to set His people free,
What is that to me?

Till by faith I met Him face to face,
and I felt the wonder of His grace,
Then I knew that He was more than just a
God who didn't care,
That lived a way out there and

Now He walks beside me day by day,
Ever watching o'er me lest I stray,
Helping me to find that narrow way,
He's Everything to me.                            (Ralph Carmichael- He's Everything to Me)

Blessings,
Mike

Isaiah 64:1-9
New Living Translation

64 [a]Oh, that you would burst from the heavens and come down!
How the mountains would quake in your presence!
[b]As fire causes wood to burn
    and water to boil,
your coming would make the nations tremble.
Then your enemies would learn the reason for your fame!
When you came down long ago,
you did awesome deeds beyond our highest expectations.
And oh, how the mountains quaked!
For since the world began,
    no ear has heard
and no eye has seen a God like you,
who works for those who wait for him!
You welcome those who gladly do good,
    who follow godly ways.
But you have been very angry with us,
    for we are not godly.
We are constant sinners;
how can people like us be saved?
We are all infected and impure with sin.
When we display our righteous deeds,
they are nothing but filthy rags.
Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall,
and our sins sweep us away like the wind.
Yet no one calls on your name
or pleads with you for mercy.
Therefore, you have turned away from us
and turned us over[c] to our sins.

And yet, O Lord, you are our Father.
We are the clay, and you are the potter.
We all are formed by your hand.
Don't be so angry with us, Lord.
Please don't remember our sins forever.
Look at us, we pray,
and see that we are all your people.
