Verse of the Day - weekend 4/16

Through the Bible - Leviticus 25-27, Revelation 3

Good morning,
Yesterday we read in Isaiah that in salvation God has set up walls and bulwarks.  They help us to stand, to cope in this day and age against those things that would smother us.

This morning I was reading in Song of Solomon and was struck by the following verses about love.  As Christians God has put His seal upon our hearts with His love.  He has also ordained and given us the love of our wives and husbands, bonds that help hold things  together through life's trials and most challenging times.  The waters and floods cannot drown or quench this love that comes down from above.

Song 8:6 Set me as a seal upon your heart,
as  a seal upon your arm,
for  love is strong as death,
jealousy is fierce as the grave.
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
the very  flame of the Lord.
7 Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can floods drown it.
If a man offered for love
all the wealth of his  house,
he would be utterly despised.
ESV
In his commentary on these verses, John MacArthur points out that these verses represent the qualities of love from 1 Corinthians 13 here in the Old Testament.  He writes, "Four qualities of love appear.  1) love is unyielding in marriage, as death is to life.  2) love is intense like the brightest flame, perhaps as bright as the glory of the Lord.  3) love is invincible or unquenchable, even when flooded with difficulty.  4) love is so priceless that it cannot be bought, it can only be given away."

As you prepare for worship this weekend.  Think about the love of God and how He's blessed us with it.  If you are married, thank the Lord for the love of your spouse.  He has put His seal upon both.

In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV
Song 8:6-8

Hang my locket around your neck,
wear my ring on your finger.
Love is invincible facing danger and death.
Passion laughs at the terrors of hell.
The fire of love stops at nothing —
it sweeps everything before it.
Flood waters can't drown love,
torrents of rain can't put it out.
Love can't be bought, love can't be sold —
it's not to be found in the marketplace.
