Verse of the Day 4/29

Through the Bible - Numbers 5-6, Revelation 16

Good morning,
Have you ever gone to a carnival or an arcade where they had different mirrors, one that would make you look taller and skinnier and another that made you look shorter and fatter than you really are?  The mirrors may look like any other, but they give a distorted view of the object which they are reflecting.   The mirrors in Biblical times were most often polished metal and gave a dim view of their subject when compared to today's high quality mirrors.  We may see things more clearly today, but our spiritual view is still distorted.

One of the lines in the song "Teaching the Truth in Love" from yesterday asks the question, "Will they see Him in our message, will they see Him in our heart". It begs the question, what kind of mirror am I in reflecting Christ in my life?
For today's verse we'll return to 1 Corinthians 13, the love chapter, for a compelling verse.

1 Cor 13:12 For  now we see in a mirror dimly, but  then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as  I have been fully known.

13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.   ESV

No matter how mature in Christ we are, or should I say, we think we are, we should be aware that we have a dim understanding and are a dim reflection of Christ.  We should strive to think and live Biblically, to be as Christ like as possible, but at the same time we must know that we will not have an accurate view of our Saviour until we meet Him face to face and get to know Him as He really is.  For now, we should strive to know and apply the scriptures in our lives with the faith hope and love of Jesus Christ abiding, taking up residence in our lives.

Regarding faith, hope, and love, consider the words to the "Song of Reconciliation" sung by Ashton, Becker and Dente.

Where there is love there is a peace
And in the cages that bind the bitter heart it is release
Hold it close to your chest, let it move and let it rest
For it is here to set your mind at ease
Where there is love there is a peace

Where there is hope there is a dream
To rise above, to remit and to redeem
To go back, to go where there's no hurt or anger there
To find the song that you once could sing
Where there is hope there is a dream

Where there is faith there is a chance
To alter the course and fight the winds of circumstance
Not to scar, but mend, not to break, but to bend
And not to know but to understand
Where there is faith there is a chance
Where there is hope there is a dream
Where there is love there is a peace
If faith, hope and love like this is seen in us, we will be a better reflection of Christ while we wait to see Him face to face.  While we wait, let us love "extravagantly" as described in these verses from The Message below.

In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV

1 Cor 13:12-13

We don't yet see things clearly. We're squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won't be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We'll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!

But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.
