Verse of the Day 10/14

Matthew 24:37-39 New Living Translation (NLT)  37 "When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah's day. 38 In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. 39 People didn't realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.

Yesterday we considered the importance of our priorities especially  our need to spend time with God.  As our God, He deserves "first importance" and should be a high priority.  Unfortunately, oftentimes all we have left for Him are our leftovers, our crumbs.

Today's verses show us that this has been the way of many all the way back to the earliest times.  The people may not have had i-phones, i-pads, and Facebook but they certainly didn't have time for God.  Not only that, the culture put down, ridiculed and mocked Noah, the man with a heart for God.

Pastor Greg Laurie writes, " That is how people will react to believers before Christ returns. The Bible tells us that a specific aspect of the end times is that people will mock Christians who believe that Jesus will come back again. As 2 Peter 3:3–4 says, "Scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, 'Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation. . . . ' "

Of course, we see this happening right now. People say things like, "Oh, Jesus promised to come back, did He? Well, where is He?"

They didn't believe it the first time. And they won't believe it the second time either. "

Yesterday we read the some of the words to the song "Give of Your Best to the Master".  Let us live our lives in a way that would be pleasing to the Master when He returns, what if it were today?

Blessings,
Mike

Matthew 24:37-39 The Message (MSG)

37-39"The Arrival of the Son of Man will take place in times like Noah's. Before the great flood everyone was carrying on as usual, having a good time right up to the day Noah boarded the ark. They knew nothing—until the flood hit and swept everything away.

39-44"The Son of Man's Arrival will be like that: Two men will be working in the field—one will be taken, one left behind; two women will be grinding at the mill—one will be taken, one left behind. So stay awake, alert. You have no idea what day your Master will show up. But you do know this: You know that if the homeowner had known what time of night the burglar would arrive, he would have been there with his dogs to prevent the break-in. Be vigilant just like that. You have no idea when the Son of Man is going to show up.
