Verse of the Day 8/10

2 Timothy 1:14  Guard and keep [with the greatest care] the precious and excellently adapted [Truth] which has been entrusted [to you], by the [help of the] Holy Spirit Who makes His home in us.    (AMP)

The context of this verse is that Paul is encouraging and challenging this young pastor to guard and hold onto those things that he has learned after Paul departs.  He knows that Timothy will be challenged in his faith.  Paul also reveals that this guarding is not something that we are left to ourselves to do.  We have the Holy Spirit living in us to guide us.

In the coming weeks many families and churches will be sending off some of their children to college, where whether they like it or not, they'll be challenged in their faith and what they believe in.  It will be a test of their faith and maturity in Christ.

Dick France writes, "a successful Christian life depends not only on us (if it did, there would be little hope) but on the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  God is not only with the believer; but is in us by the Holy Spirit.  What more could we need?"

As much as we have the opportunity let us encourage and challenge those students who are heading off to write the next chapter in their life.  May it be a testimony to the faith that has been instilled in them.

Blessings,
Mike

2 Timothy 1:12-14Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

12 But I am not ashamed, because I know the One I have believed in and am persuaded that He is able to guard what has been entrusted to me[a] until that day.

Be Loyal to the Faith

13 Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who lives in us, that good thing entrusted to you.
