Verse of the Day 8/11

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17  May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.     -  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
In this passage Paul is encouraging the church in Thessalonica in the same manner that he encouraged and challenged Timothy in yesterday's verse.  In verse 15 he starts off by telling them to "stand firm" in their faith and to "hold on" to the things that they had been taught and put into practice.  It is good advice for us today and to pass along to the next generation.

Today, I'd like you to consider that God, that Jesus, "has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace".  We will go through our ups and downs in life and in our walk.   But the thought of "eternal encouragement" should give us hope and comfort us that "He'll go whatever it takes" to see us through.

Charles Spurgeon writes, "a sense of acceptance in the Beloved is an everlasting consolation. Moreover, the Christian has a conviction of his security. God has promised to save those who trust in Christ: the Christian does trust in Christ, and he believes that God will be as good as his word, and will save him. He feels that he is safe by virtue of his being bound up with the person and work of Jesus."

May your heart, your faith, be encouraged and strengthened for every good work and word.

In Christ,
Mike
