Verse of the Day 7/3

Hebrews 6:19  We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,  English Standard Version (ESV)

We've been enjoying our family vacation at the beach and one of the things that aids in that enjoyment is setting up a pop up tent to give some shade during the day.  Yesterday, while setting it up we had two legs anchored but not the front two.  Before we could complete the work a gust of wind came up and flipped the tent.    The two anchored legs held and the other two along with the fabric flipped over.  There was some damage but we were able to get things back together and this time properly anchored.

Sometimes our lives can be like that.  If we are not properly anchored, storms or the gusts of wind in life can flip our world upside down when we least expect it.  The important thing is to take care of the important things first, to anchor our lives in Jesus and the Word as an anchor for our souls before we worry about the busyness or the aesthetics.

If I had anchored all four legs first then went on to the rest of the installation, the "event" would never had occurred.  What I learned yesterday is to prepare for the gusts, to be anchored, before they come.  What are you doing to anchor your life?  May hope in Jesus be the anchor of your soul, take hold of that "unbreakable spiritual lifeline" (The Message) .

Blessings,
Mike

Hebrews 6:18-20The Message (MSG)

God Gave His Word

13-18 When God made his promise to Abraham, he backed it to the hilt, putting his own reputation on the line. He said, "I promise that I'll bless you with everything I have—bless and bless and bless!" Abraham stuck it out and got everything that had been promised to him. When people make promises, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there is any question that they'll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up. When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee—God can't break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable.
18-20 We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. It's an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up his permanent post as high priest for us, in the order of Melchizedek.

Blessings,
Mike
