Verse of the Day 8/8

Micah 7:18-19 Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity

    and passing over transgression
for the remnant of his inheritance?
He does not retain his anger forever,
because he delights in steadfast love.
19 He will again have compassion on us;
he will tread our iniquities underfoot.
You will cast all our sins
into the depths of the sea.    English Standard Version (ESV)

Recently I quoted a song that we sang in Sunday School as kids, "Gone, gone, gone, gone yes my sins are gone".  I didn't carry that chorus out to the end, but it goes like this "buried in the deepest sea, yes that's good enough for me, I shall live eternally because my sins are G-O-N-E  GONE."

We've all sinned, missed the mark and fallen short of God's standards but He doesn't abandon us.  On the contrary, John 3:16 says that "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son."  Think of that little world "so".  We tell infants and toddlers, how much do I love you?  I love you sooooooo much, extending our arms as far as they will go.  We reassure our kids, our spouses that we love them so  much.  Our actions give evidence of this.

God's actions show His love for us.  When He says "so" those o's , His arms extend to the ends of the earth.

In answer to the prophet's opening question?  Who is a God like you?  No one else, all other gods are no gods at all.  They are false.  But God is truth and He delights in His people and will have compassion on us.

Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men[a] by which we must be saved."  English Standard Version (ESV)

Micah 7:18-20The Message (MSG)

18-20 Where is the god who can compare with you—
wiping the slate clean of guilt,
Turning a blind eye, a deaf ear,
to the past sins of your purged and precious people?
You don't nurse your anger and don't stay angry long,
for mercy is your specialty. That's what you love most.
And compassion is on its way to us.
    You'll stamp out our wrongdoing.
You'll sink our sins
to the bottom of the ocean.
You'll stay true to your word to Father Jacob
and continue the compassion you showed Grandfather Abraham—
Everything you promised our ancestors
    from a long time ago.
