Verse of the Day 3/14

Verse of the  Day 3/14

Mark 13:35-36
35watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning— 36 lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.  New King James Version (NKJV)

I grew up  in Illinois,  in the heart of  the Midwest where, as spring approached, you knew that  thunderstorms and  the threat of tornados were of common occurrence.  On  the radio and TV programs would be interrupted for "a test of the emergency broadcast system" which would give instructions  for what you were to do  in the case of an emergency.  You would also hear of interruptions for a severe storm watch or  tornado watch.  The watch meant that the conditions  were right for a severe storm to develop.  The tornado "warning" meant that a funnel cloud  had been spotted in the area and the threat was imminent.

Today's verses come from a passage  that speaks  of Jesus Christ's second  coming.  As a teenager I remember  reading Hal Lindsey's "The Late Great Planet Earth" which dealt with the end times.  Later when my kids were teenagers we all read the "Left Behind" series which brought  it closer to home.  While we wait for His coming  we are to be alert (ESV) to watch for  the signs of His coming  and  be  prepared  for  it at  any moment.

If  you lived in Kansas on the  prairie, you couldn't dig a storm  cellar/shelter as it  approached.  It had to be planned for and constructed so that you'd  be ready.  We are to live our lives being prepared being ready for His coming.  We don't want to have to  say "I wish I'd  been ready".

A man and wife asleep in bed
She hears a noise and turns her head he's gone
I wish we'd all been ready
Two men walking up a hill
One disappears and one's left standing still
I wish we'd all been ready
There's no time to change your mind
The Son has come and you've been left behind

We don't know the time of His coming, but one thing we do know, it is closer today than 20 or 40 years ago, but let's be ready.  "Stay at your post.  Keep watch" The Message.

Blessings,

Mike

Mark 13:35-37The Message (MSG)
32-37 "But the exact day and hour? No one knows that, not even heaven's angels, not even the Son. Only the Father. So keep a sharp lookout, for you don't know the timetable. It's like a man who takes a trip, leaving home and putting his servants in charge, each assigned a task, and commanding the gatekeeper to stand watch. So, stay at your post, watching. You have no idea when the homeowner is returning, whether evening, midnight, cockcrow, or morning. You don't want him showing up unannounced, with you asleep on the job. I say it to you, and I'm saying it to all: Stay at your post. Keep watch."
