Verse of the Day 11/5

Verse of the Day 11/5

Matthew 6:30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?    English Standard Version (ESV)

I just returned from visiting my son Jason and his family for a few days in New Jersey.  The trees were in full color displaying their full glory.  It was a beautiful setting and we were able to enjoy watching some football and Ava's soccer amid the colors and beautiful fall weather.

Friday night the school was preparing for homecoming and held a rally which was followed by a bonfire.   Pallets and filled with straw for kindling were piled 15 feet high.  When the pile was lit flames shot 30 to 60 feet high.  It all burned away quickly leaving a pile of ashes.  The leaves also will be down soon, many of them in the small country towns will be raked up and burned, the vibrant colors turned to ashes.

I read today's verses yesterday morning and it brought all of these things together.

You've heard it said, "here today, gone tomorrow", so it is with the fall leaves on the trees but also of many things in our lives.  Riches, health, youth are gone in a flash.  But we need not worry about any of these things if we know and trust that God is for us and will provide.  The colors of the trees will come back next year.  The things that fade in our lives will be replaced by other things according to God's plan.

Our goal in life should be to "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need." (v.33)  God is looking out for His creation and as the "apple of His eye", He will be looking out for us and has the best in mind and in store through the seasons of life and into an eternity with Him.

Matthew 6:25-34New Living Translation (NLT)

25 "That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

28 "And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

31 "So don't worry about these things, saying, 'What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?' 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God[a] above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

34 "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today.
