Verse of the Day 2/11

Verse of the Day 2/11

Romans 12:3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.   English Standard Version (ESV)

Last week I had posted and commented on the passage from John 1 where John l stated that Jesus came full of  grace and in truth and that grace and truth come through Him, through His Word.  I also mentioned that grace is pardon with power.  The Message in verse 14 stated that Jesus came and "moved into the neighborhood".  In the same way He has moved into our hearts and we will never be the same.

In today's passage the Apostle Paul speaks of the grace given to Him.  Grace and truth came to Him through Jesus and in reading the passage below Paul gives guidelines for living out life in grace and in truth, with pardon/forgiveness and the power of the Holy Spirit.  We are to love with a genuine love, showing honor, being patient, do what is honorable, and live peaceably with all, not repaying evil for evil.

The world needs more of that grace, it needs more of that truth, it needs more of that pardon with power.  May it be seen and put on display in our lives.  Read through the passage below and dwell on it for awhile.  May we all be so moved to do what it says, believing that it is "the Word of God" that is at work in our hearts.

Romans 12:3-18 English Standard Version (ESV)

Gifts of Grace

For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members,[a] and the members do not all have the same function,so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads,[b] with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

Marks of the True Christian

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit,[c] serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.[d] Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
