Verse of the Day 2/2

Verse of the Day 2/2

Ephesians 1:13-14 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.  English Standard Version (ESV)

Yesterday we considered in James 1 what it means to have received the "implanted word" and the work that it does in the lives of those who hear God's Word and take it to heart and put their faith and trust in Him.  Today's verses reinforce that, it is through Christ himself and the Holy Spirit that we hear the word of truth, the gospel, and in belief in Him we receive our salvation, we are sealed in Him or as The Message below says, we are "signed, sealed and delivered" in Him.  Our lives themselves should be to the praise of His glory.

In this chapter Paul reminds us that He saved us "to the praise of His glorious grace"(v.6); "for the praise of His glory" (v.12); and "to the praise of His glory" (v.14).  When we read something repeated that often within the span of a few verses it should grab our attention.  Our lives should be to the praise of His glory and praise means worship.  Taking that a step further, our very lives should be an example of worshipping, bringing glory to God.

Why should our lives bring praise to Him?  Because all of our blessings, all of the perfect gifts, gifts of life, hope and healing come from Him.

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow
Praise Him, all creatures here below
Praise Him above, ye heavenly hosts
Praise Father, Son and Ho- ly Ghost

Let earth and heavenly saints proclaim
The power and might of His great Name
Let us exalt on bended knee
Praise God, the Holy Tri- ni- ty

Chorus
Praise God, praise God, praise God, Who saved my soul
Praise God, praise God, praise God from Whom all bless-ings flow

Read the passage below, you'll see references to God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  Praise God, praise Jesus, praise the Holy Spirit the blessed Trinity, from whom all blessings flow.

Blessings,

Mike

Ephesians 1:11-14 The Message (MSG)

11-12 It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.
13-14 It's in Christ that you, once you heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free—signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit. This signet from God is the first installment on what's coming, a reminder that we'll get everything God has planned for us, a praising and glorious life.
