Verse of the Day 12/6

Verse of the Day 12/6

Psalm 103:11-1 For as the heavens are high above the earth,

So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.   New King James Version (NKJV)

Today's verses are probably familiar to most if not all of us and we get the idea that the two don't meet.   It is interesting that the Psalmist chose to say "east and west".  If he had said "north and south" you can only go so far north before you'll reach the North Pole and begin heading south.  However, if you are heading east and don't turn you'll keep heading east and never run into the west.

Our walk with God should be "one directional" as well.  Once we've turned towards Him and follow Him, we don't ever have to turn back and our sins are forgiven, they are behind us and we don't have to go that way again.

Pastor and author Gregg Laurie writes, " I think one of the best definitions of being a Christian is, to borrow Nietzsche's phrase, a "long obedience in the same direction." It's just putting one foot in front of the other and walking with the Lord every day. Some days you feel it. And some days you don't....That's because our objective as Christians is to walk with God and live by faith. Are you walking with God today?"

If you haven't ever decided to turn to God and follow Him, may you do so today and not turn back.

This world is not my home I'm just a passing through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore

Oh lord you know I have no friend like you
If heaven's not my home then lord what will I do
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore

" A long obedience in the same direction".  Is that the path that we are on, following Jesus on a pathway to heaven?

Psalm 103:11-19 New King James Version (NKJV)

11 For as the heavens are high above the earth,
So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father pities his children,
So the Lord pities those who fear Him.
14 For He [a]knows our frame;
He remembers that we are dust.

15 As for man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 For the wind passes over it, and it is [b]gone,
And its place remembers it no more.
17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
On those who fear Him,
And His righteousness to children's children,
18 To such as keep His covenant,
And to those who remember His commandments to do them.

19 The Lord has established His throne in heaven,
And His kingdom rules over all.
