Verse of the Day 4/14

2 Peter 1:3-4

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.  New International Version

It seems that our society functions by convincing us that our lives will be so much better if we have this or that.  Advertising in any form tries to convince us that we "need" their product.  Once convinced of that "need" we can be overcome by the desire to fulfill that need.  Sounds kind of crazy but can you step back and think of things that you did just fine without, but then you became aware of it and had to have it?   I can think of cell phones, flat screen TV's and other items that everyone "should" have.

Today's verses are a reminder that "we have everything we need" to live a godly life, one that pleases our Heavenly Father.  We find it in His Word and in prayer and by living according to what He has blessed us with.  We don't "need" to have the latest App on the most current version of a device (cell phone or iPad) in order to live our lives.  We can stand, we can live by God's promises like the one that we considered in Romans 8:28 where we recall that "all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose."

I read today's verse in the ESV (below) which stated that God has given us "all things" pertaining to live and godliness.  He had given us all things, everything that we need to realize that "all things" in this life will work out for good.  It may be hard to grasp, to fully understand but that is where faith steps in and we learn to stand on His promises.
