Verse of the Day 4/9

Verse of the Day 4/9

Ephesians 1:11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,    New King James Version

We recently took a look at Romans 8:28-39 which contains three great "all things" statements beginning in verse 28 with "all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose.".  Today's verse comes from a similar passage written also by the Apostle Paul to the church in Ephesus (and to us) which contains the same basic thoughts and expands on some of the things that we have "in Him".

Robert J. Morgan in his book, "The Promise" writes, "Romans 8:28 is the view from the ground, as it were, and Ephesians 1:11 is how it is seen from heaven.  Here on earth, we see that everything works together for our good; but from a loftier perspective, we see that everything works together for our good because all things work out in conformity with the purpose of His immutable will."... He continues, "when we read Ephesians, we're breathing the thin oxygen of high altitude truth."

The "loftiness" of God is seen throughout scripture and when I hear that term a picture of the majesty of God in creation, specifically to the mountains comes to my mind.  When we see a beautiful picture or setting we realize that God has "worked" all of this together for good, for our good.

I'll share one of my favorite photos from Yosemite National Park that I took several years ago and can't help  but think that if God put all these things together, imagine what He has in store for us when we are with Him in eternity.

Read the passage, which in the original text was one rambling sentence. Think of all that we have "in Him".

In Christ, Mike Folllow the Verse of the Day blog at http://mikesvotd.blogspot.com Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness  of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace. NIV

Ephesians 1:3-14
New King James Version

Redemption in Christ

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He [a]made us accepted in the Beloved.

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and [b]prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, [c]both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who[d] is the [e]guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
