Verse of the Day 5/6

Verse of the Day 5/6

John 3:16-17
English Standard Version

16 "For God so loved the world,  that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Our couples small group watched a video last night in which Del Tacket spoke of philosophies and world views.  The Christian worldview sees God as the creator and still active and sovereign in HIs creation; others believe in a God, much like a watchmaker, who set things in order and let it go; the other predominant view is that there is no God, we are all "star stuff" and as Carl Sagan said, "the cosmos is all that ever was, is and will be".

I read today's verses in a devotional this morning and thought about the significance contained within these verses.  Two of the world views do not honor or revere God and ignore the fact that He sent His Son Jesus into this world and that He is still with us, living in and through us.

I"m reminded of the song that we sang often in my teenage years, He's Everything to Me.

In the stars His handiwork I see
On the wind He speaks with majesty
Tho' He ruleth over land and sea
What is that to me
I will celebrate nativity
For it has a place in history
Sure He came to set His people free
What is that to me
'Til by faith I met Him face to face
And I felt the wonder of His grace
Then I knew that He was more
Than just a God who didn't care
That lived away out there
And now He walks beside me day by day
Ever watching o'er me lest I stray
Helping me to find that narrow way
He's ev'rything to me, He's everything to me.   (He's Everything to Me -The Martins)

Thankfully, there is and we firmly believe in a God who does care and walks beside us day by day.  May we share the good news with someone that needs to hear it and accept it, accept Him today.

Blessings,
Mike

John 3:16-21
English Standard Version

For God So Loved the World

16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God."

Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.  NIV
