Verse of the Day 12/1

Verse of the Day 12/1

1 Peter 1:13
English Standard Version

13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action,and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Continuiing with verses from 1 Peter, today's verse calls us to be prepared, to be ready for action, clear minded and with hope.  Good things to keep in mind and actually to have as a "mind set", a focus.

Think of things we prepare for.  Having just come off of Thanksgiving, you wouldn't host a Thanksgiving dinner without preparation.  There are things to buy, food to prepare, perhaps decorations to be put out, all towards one purpose.  If you are going to compete in a sport, you prepare for your opponent, you study and you practice how you go about to win in the contest.  So it is with living the Christian life.  Be prepared for each day and what it may have in store.  Read, pray, study, sing, clearing your mind and preparing for what the day holds.

Verse 16 states, "you shall be holy for I am holy".  Being holy is to be set apart for His service in the grace that He provides.

  1. Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
    Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
    Make friends of God's children, help those who are weak,
    Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.
  2. Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
    Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
    By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
    Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

May the hymn and the passage help you in "preparing your mind for action" today.

Blessings,
Mike

1 Peter 1:13-16
English Standard Version

Called to Be Holy

13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action,[a]

 and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."
