Verse of the Day 12/12

Verse of the Day 12/12

John 3:16-17
English Standard Version

16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

One of my favorite Christmas hymns is "O Holy Night" and especially the line "a thrill of hope".  I'm reminded of Christmas time as a child.  You would see presents under the tree and there was hope that your favorite gift that was asked for was there.  It was hard to wait to see if was there.  The real thrill came when the present was opened and the gift was revealed.  The thrill of hope was realized.

So it was with Jesus coming into the worldl, the greatest gift of all time.  After 400 years of silence from the prophets, Jesus came.  They were expecting Him but many, even most didn't recognize the gift.

Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving.  Year after year, generation upon generation, fulfilling hope, bringing salvation, bringing light and life.  You can look to these verses and see how they relate to so many other hymns that we sing.

Take some time and think of how much this gift has meant to you.  Remember and recover that thrill of hope realized when you first believed.

1 O holy night! the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope- the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!
Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

2 Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here came the Wise Men from Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,
In all our trials born to be our Friend.
He knows our need— to our weakness is no stranger.
Behold your King, before Him lowly bend!
Behold your King, before Him lowly bend!

3 Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we;
Let all within us praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! O praise His name forever!
His pow'r and glory evermore proclaim!
His pow'r and glory evermore proclaim!

Blessings,
Mike

John 3:16-21
English Standard Version

For God So Loved the World

16 "For God so loved the world,that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God."
