Verse of the Day 12/14

Verse of the Day 12/14

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
New International Version

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

If you want to begin a Bible memorization plan, today's verses could be a good start.  They are short, to the point and should easily be kept in our heartts and our minds.  Following these commands however is not so simple, how easily they slip away from us.

When we think of Thanksgiving, thanks is the first word that comes to mind.  For Christmas, "rejoice" is proably near the top of the list.  But as today's verses indicate, the rejoicing should be "always" along with "praying continually" and "giving thanks in all circumstances".  All these would indicate that they should be present in our lives and at the very core of our being.

Sadly, I don't have to look to far back in my life, (like yesterday) when I wasn't rejoicing, praying or giving thanks as I should. His Word is there to guide, direct and correct us in our walk in this season and through the year.

David Jeremiah writes, "Part of walking by faith is . . . walking! Our responsibility is to act on what God has promised to provide. We need to act joyfully—giving testimony (both verbally and nonverbally) to our conviction that God is good, God is in control, and God will bring good out of every situation for His glory (Romans 8:28). I'm not talking about a veneer of joy; I'm talking about joy through and through. Even when there are tears, they are not tears of anger or frustration. Even when we experience grief, we can have joy because we know it's our right to rejoice.

2 O come, O Wisdom from on high,

who ordered all things mightily;
to us the path of knowledge show

and teach us in its ways to go. Refrain

Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel
shall come to you, O Israel.

Blessings,
Mike

1 Thessalonians 5:16-28
New International Version

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil.

23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

25 Brothers and sisters, pray for us. 26 Greet all God's people with a holy kiss. 27 I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers and sisters.

28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
