Verse of the Day 11/25

Through the Bible - Ezekiel 35-36, 1 Peter 5

Happy Thanksgiving,
Recently in church we sang a modernized version of "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing".  It is a fitting hymn for Thanksgiving.  The second verse states:
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here by Thy great help I've come;

Ebenezer means stone of help or remembrance, remembering how the Lord has proved to be faithful.

A stanza that always catches may attention is the third.  We, as individuals, as churches, and as a nation are 'prone to wander', prone to leave the path of the straight and narrow.  It also speaks of the heart desire for restoration and that once that has been accomplished that it be sealed, settled once and for all.

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here's my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

As you read through the Bible, especially the Old Testament you find characters, real people, like us who were prone to wander, had wandered while God remained faithful and would do what it takes to bring His people back to Him.  The same could be said for Israel and Judah as nations, who had slipped into idolatry but would be brought back by the faithful God.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving today, let us be thankful that we serve a faithful God.  For today's verse we'll go to Psalm 100.
Ps 100:4  Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his  courts with praise!
Give thanks to him;  bless his name!

5  For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his  faithfulness to all generations.

The ESV uses the word steadfast to describe God's love for us.  It is a picture of a steady, devoted, and loyal love.
Have you been wandering?  Perhaps His steadfast, loyal, faithful love is calling you back.

Deut 7:Know therefore that the Lord your God is God,  the faithful God  who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,

Ps 100:1-101:1

His Steadfast Love Endures Forever

A Psalm for  giving thanks.

100  Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
2  Serve the Lord with gladness!
 Come into his presence with singing!

3 Know that  the Lord, he is God!
It is he who  made us, and  we are his;
we are his  people, and  the sheep of his pasture.

4  Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his  courts with praise!
Give thanks to him;  bless his name!

5  For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his  faithfulness to all generations.
