Verse of the Day 7/4

Verse of the Day 7/4

Isaiah 26:3-4 (HCSB)  You will keep the mind that is dependent on You
in perfect peace,
for it is trusting in You.
4 Trust in the Lord forever,
because in Yah, the Lord, is an everlasting rock!

Today our nation celebrates it's independence, when we set ourselves free from oppression and tyranny.  As Christians we have also been set free, free from the power, the tyranny of sin over our lives.

Galatians 5:1 (HCSB) Christ has liberated us to be free. Stand firm then and don't submit again to a yoke of slavery.

As a nation we'd never want to go back to the former position, we treasure our freedoms, including the freedom to worship our God.  As Christians we should never want to go back to being slaves to sin that so easily "entangles" us and tries to drag us down.

The two verses that I've quoted go together.  We have been liberated and set free, but we don't sit back and relax.  We have to take a stand, we have to defend our freedoms.  We trust in our nation to take that stand, realizing that our nation depends on God.  As individuals we've been set free but remain dependent upon God, we trust in God, to enable us to stand firm, never again to submit to the yoke of slavery, the slavery of sin.

The words from today's verse were part of a song, read the Read some of the words to the Steven Curtis Chapman song "Declaration of Dependence".  As we celebrate our nation's independence, may we as Christians also celebrate our dependence on the One who has set us free.

And I know this is how my life was meant to be
I was made for this dependency
On the one who has created me
So I'll sing my declaration song
For the one I am depending on
And I hope you'll sing along

This is my declaration of dependence
This is my declaration of my need
This is my declaration of dependence
On the one who gave His life to me

Isaiah 26:3 You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.
4 So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].  Amplified Bible

In Christ,
Mike

Isaiah 26:1-4 Amplified Bible (AMP)
26 In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; [the Lord] sets up salvation as walls and bulwarks.
2 Open the gates, that the [uncompromisingly] righteous nation which keeps her faith and her troth [with God] may enter in.
3 You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.
4 So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].
