Verse of the Day 11/18

Ephesians 6:13  This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.  Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Through the wonder of Facetime my wife and I are able to spend time, to see our grandchildren "face to face" over a great distance..  The other day we were talking to our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter Ava.  When she was told that she was going to be going to Gigi's house to visit for a few days, she leaned close to the camera and said "I not going to take a nap, not ever!"  It is precious (sometimes challenging) to see the determination in the face of a child.  But strong as her will is, that day and the next she took a nap.  I'm sure she will take them when she comes to visit.

As adults we may not be concerned about taking a nap.  But are we ever concerned about a spiritual lapse; a lapse of judgment, of obedience, of faith?  Like a 2 1/2 year old, if we try in our own strength to stand, determine in our own strength that we can walk right up to or along that line and not cross over it, but we are fooling ourselves as much as little Ava in her confidence of taking a stand against a nap.

How then are we to stand, to resist and to avoid those lapses?  We are to "be strong in the Lord" and to "put on the full armor of God."  It should be a familiar passage to us but the important question is, is it a familiar practice for us?

Read the passage below.  May we put on our spiritual armor today , "take all the help we can get, every weapon God has issued" (The Message) and stand.

In Christ,
Mike

Ephesians 6:13-18The Message (MSG)

13-18 Be prepared. You're up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it's all over but the shouting you'll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You'll need them throughout your life. God's Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other's spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.
