Verse of the Day 12/9/15

Verse of the Day 12/9

Deuteronomy 32:47  For it is not an empty or trivial matter for you; indeed it is your [very] life. By [honoring and obeying] this word you will live long in the land, which you are crossing the Jordan to possess."  Amplified Bible (AMP)

In today's verse Moses is talking to the people of Israel, towards the end of his life, as the end approached and the people were being prepared to cross over into the promised land.  He was imploring them to cling to, to revere and to honor God and His Word as they went into the new land and the new life.  Here in the Amplified Bible he is saying that God's Word is not empty or trivial.  Other translations say empty, idle, useless and meaningless.  How many people today, even among those who call themselves Christians, treat God's Word as if it had little relevance in their daily lives.

As we considered the other day in the analogy of rivets, God's Word is fundamental to the true Christian.  It anchors them and holds in and through the turbulence of life.  But it is not just for the turbulent times.  It is also there for us, those rivets should be called to mind in times of celebration in our lives.  We can relate to Christmas and Easter and also those events in our own lives, the birth of a child or grandchild, a chld coming home or even celebrating a new home .

If that is the case, we should never look at God's word casually or in a take it or leave it attitude.  I've we've fallen away from God's Word, if dust has covered it as it sits on a shelf, pick it up and read it, mine it and take it to heart, for it is your "very life".

Lord God, forgive me for treating your Word casually, as if it's any other book.  Your Word is fire, cleansing me; a sword cutting through my pretenses; a hammer, pounding my hard heart; a seed, growing life in me; milk and meat to nourish my soul; a light to illuminate my path; and a mirror to show me who I am.  Thank you for your Word, and teach me to treat it as my very life.  In the name of Jesus, the Word, amen.  - James MacDonald

May we never take His Word as trivial or casually but realize that these Words are our life.

Blessings,

Mike

Deuteronomy 32:46-50The Message (MSG)

44-47 Moses came and recited all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he and Joshua son of Nun. When Moses had finished saying all these words to all Israel, he said, "Take to heart all these words to which I give witness today and urgently command your children to put them into practice, every single word of this Revelation. Yes. This is no small matter for you; it's your life. In keeping this word you'll have a good and long life in this land that you're crossing the Jordan to possess."
48-50 That same day God spoke to Moses: "Climb the Abarim Mountains to Mount Nebo in the land of Moab, overlooking Jericho, and view the land of Canaan that I'm giving the People of Israel to have and hold. Die on the mountain that you climb and join your people in the ground, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and joined his people.
