Verse of the Day 5/11

Psalm 119:162-163    I rejoice at your word
    like one who finds great spoil.
163 I hate and abhor falsehood,
    but I love your law.   English Standard Version (ESV)

The Message paraphrase (below) begins with talking about the slander of politicians.  If we follow their statements over time, sometimes within minutes we'll hear a totally different response.  The object is winning, winning favor of the voters according to the direction of the winds of the polls.  You don't hear much concern over the truth.  I'm reminded of Jesus facing Pilate and talking about truth, Pilate's response would have been fitting today as it was back then, "what is truth".  In a world that has such a void of truth, those of us who love God's Word, spend time in it, follow it and abide by it have a different opinion of truth as we read in the Bible.  We rejoice in it, celebrate it and want to share it.

If you've ever spent much time on vacation walking the beach you always are on the lookout for a large sea shell, perfect in shape and appearance.  You won't find it on the crowded public beaches at mid-day but you'll likely have to go to a more remote place early in the morning to be the first one to come along after the tide has gone out and left the prize in it's wake.

A.W. Tozer writes, "This is what we will attempt to do: we will walk along the broad seashore of God and pick up a shell here and a shell there, holding each up to the light to admire its beauty. While we may ultimately have a small store of shells to take with us, they can but remind us of the truth and the fact that there stretches the vastness of the seashore around the great lips of the oceans—and that still buried there is far more than we can ever hope to find or see Christ the Eternal Son, 9-11.

"Lord, I glory in the shells I'm looking at this morning—and revel in the vastness of the seashore around me! Amen."

May that be our attitude in response to the "vast see" of God's Word.  May we treasure it and want to tell others of the treasures that we find and love while realizing that each day holds an opportunity to find new treasure.

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 119:162-168The Message (MSG)
161-168 I've been slandered unmercifully by the politicians,
    but my awe at your words keeps me stable.
I'm ecstatic over what you say,
    like one who strikes it rich.
I hate lies—can't stand them!—
    but I love what you have revealed.
Seven times each day I stop and shout praises
    for the way you keep everything running right.
For those who love what you reveal, everything fits—
    no stumbling around in the dark for them.
I wait expectantly for your salvation;
    God, I do what you tell me.
My soul guards and keeps all your instructions—
    oh, how much I love them!
I follow your directions, abide by your counsel;
    my life's an open book before you.
