Verse of the Day 8/13

Verse of the Day 8/13

Romans 12:9-10  Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.    English Standard Version (ESV)

Today's read through the Bible plan brought men to Romans 12 which is the transition point in Romans from the teaching to the applications of doctrine.  It begins by telling us in verse 2 not to be "conformed" to the pattern of this world, to be pressed into it's mold, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, by God's Word working in us and showing in our lives.

As we considered Paul's statement and challenge in 1 Corinthians yesterday to "show a more excellent way" and then broke into the discourse on love, love is to be the way that we show that excellent way, and tying it in with today's verses it shows in our actions in what we do and what we don't do..

There is no faking it it must be true, genuine, precious, the real thing coming from "the center of who you are" (The Message).  From it spring the other things mentioned in the passage which is titled "Love in Action" in my Bible.  Read the passage below and see what you can take from it and apply in your life today, in your actions, in love.

Romans 12:14-16 Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath. Laugh with your happy friends when they're happy; share tears when they're down. Get along with each other; don't be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don't be the great somebody.  (The Message)

Romans 12:9-16 The Message (MSG)

9-10 Love from the center of who you are; don't fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good. Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle.

11-13 Don't burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don't quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.

14-16 Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath. Laugh with your happy friends when they're happy; share tears when they're down. Get along with each other; don't be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don't be the great somebody.
