Verse of the Day 8/22

Verse of the Day 8/22

Hosea 6:3   Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord;

    his going out is sure as the dawn;
he will come to us as the showers,
    as the spring rains that water the earth."   English Standard Version (ESV)

Yesterday we considered what it means to be a "see through-er" and calling out to God to see you through in times of pain,difficulty or hardship in our lives.  My Old Testament reading yesterday brought me to Hosea 6 where I read today's verse.  What caught my attention was "let us press on to know the Lord".  Seeing through and calling on God to see you through involves pressing on.  It is not passively sitting back and waiting.  There may be waiting involved but with eager anticipation, being ready for when God moves or moves you.  When He does move it comes on us like the first rays of sunshine in the morning after a dark and stormy night,  or like gentle showers that come after a drought, the waters bring life to all around.  All of this is built on faith, not in ourselves, not in our power or wit or influence.

Max Lucado writes the following on this passage  in his "Life Lessons Bible".  Don't build your house on a career.  Don't build your house on a thrill.  Don't build your house on a talent.  Don't build your house on a solitary earthly relationship.  Don't pursue things that don't last.  Build your house on the only thing that can last; faith."

Is there an area in your life where you are being tested?  Ask God to strengthen your faith, to see you through.  Thank Him for how He has led you in the past, how He has seen you through to this moment, and trust that He will see you through to the end of time and beyond.

1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.

3. His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When every earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.

4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne!
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

Hosea 6:3 The Message (MSG)

Gangs of Priests Assaulting Worshipers

1-3 "Come on, let's go back to God.
    He hurt us, but he'll heal us.
He hit us hard,
    but he'll put us right again.
In a couple of days we'll feel better.
    By the third day he'll have made us brand-new,
Alive and on our feet,
    fit to face him.
We're ready to study God,
    eager for God-knowledge.
As sure as dawn breaks,
    so sure is his daily arrival.
He comes as rain comes,
    as spring rain refreshing the ground."
