Verse of the Day 5/21

Verse of the Day 5/21

Isaiah 48:17-18 New Living Translation (NLT)

17 This is what the Lord says—
    your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
"I am the Lord your God,
    who teaches you what is good for you
    and leads you along the paths you should follow.
18 Oh, that you had listened to my commands!
    Then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle river
    and righteousness rolling over you like waves in the sea.

For today's verses we'll return to Isaiah 48.  In these verse the Lord speaks to the prophet who shares it with God's people.  It should be for us as well, we should take advantage of the opportunities to share what God has done and is doing for us as He teaches and guides us in the Word and along the paths of life.

As I stated yesterday we reading through these passages and chapters we should pause and take time to think calmly of what we have just read and what it has to say to us this day.  In these verses think of how the prophet; and how God thinks of Himself - as the Redeemer.  We have been redeemed, bought with a price.  In the Old Testament it probably brought visions of animal sacrifices.  For us, we have the picture of Jesus making the ultimate, one-time sacrifice for all of us.  The Lord is also our Teacher our Shepherd and Guide, teaching and leading us along the path that we should follow as spelled out in His Word.

For those who do follow Him along the path in life He offers peace that flows like a gentle river and being in right standing with Him will have the calming effect of waves rolling in on the beach.

Don't these thoughts make you want to praise Him?

Praise the Savior, ye who know Him!
Who can tell how much we owe Him?
Gladly let us render to Him
  All we are and have.
2
Jesus is the name that charms us;
He for conflicts fits and arms us;
Nothing moves and nothing harms us
  When we trust in Him.
3
Trust in Him, ye saints, forever;
He is faithful, changing never;
Neither force nor guile can sever
  Those He loves from Him.

Think of some other songs or hymns that come to mind, perhaps one of them may stay on your mind through this day and help to bring you peace.  (Peace Like a River; Blessed Quietness; Like a River Glorious; It is Well With My Soul)

Isaiah 48:17-22 New King James Version (NKJV)

17 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
The Holy One of Israel:
"I am the Lord your God,
Who teaches you to profit,
Who leads you by the way you should go.
18 Oh, that you had heeded My commandments!
Then your peace would have been like a river,
And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.
19 Your descendants also would have been like the sand,
And the offspring of your body like the grains of sand;
His name would not have been cut off
Nor destroyed from before Me."

20 Go forth from Babylon!
Flee from the Chaldeans!
With a voice of singing,
Declare, proclaim this,
Utter it to the end of the earth;
Say, "The Lord has redeemed
His servant Jacob!"
21 And they did not thirst
When He led them through the deserts;
He caused the waters to flow from the rock for them;
He also split the rock, and the waters gushed out.

22 "There is no peace," says the Lord, "for the wicked."
