Verse of the Day 7/2

Through the Bible - Job 26-27, Acts 12

Good morning,
In yesterday's VOTD Jesus warned us to beware of the false prophets.  For today's verse we go to 1 John, which most theologians believe was written by John late in the first century.  He sought to proclaim the truth about the Messiah whom he had witnessed "in the flesh" and followed Christ for three years down the "narrow way".

The basic theme of the book is a recall to the fundamentals of the Christian faith, a call to "get back to the basics" of Christianity and not to be fooled or deceived by those that were already teaching a different gospel.

1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life —  2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us —   NKJV

Rev. Michael Glodo writes that Christ " was more than simply the messenger announcing the arrival of God's reign.  He was the one who brought the kingdom.  In fact, Jesus embodied the kingdom because He was the king, not only of Israel but the royal Son of God who would rule the nations.(Ps. 2)  As such He represented a threat and overthrow to some just as He meant salvation and blessing to others."

John had followed Jesus in person.  Witnessing Jesus life was preparatin for the hard road, the narrow way that lay ahead for those that would remain true to Jesus.  Following Him in the way, led John to sow the truth about Jesus which would lead to a great harvest, a harvest that continues today.

Teaching the truth today still remains "a threat and an overthrow" today for those that teach "easy believism" and a prosperity gospel.

Eph 4:14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won't be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.
NLT

In Christ,
Mike

What Was Heard, Seen, and Touched
(John 1:1-5)
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life —  2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us —  3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.
Fellowship with Him and One Another
5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

NKJV
