Verse of the Day 7/4

Through the Bible - Deuteronomy 22-24, Acts 5:22-42

Happy 4th of July to you!

Today, we look back to when our country declared its independence, freedom from oppression, freedom from "taxation without representation" .

In our personal Christian lives we can look back to a similar day, when we received Christ as our Saviour and Lord, a day where we we freed from sin but declared our dependence on our Saviour that we might remain free.   We get a few examples of how we do that in today's verse from the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 2.

Eph 2:19 So then you are no longer  strangers and aliens, but you are  fellow citizens with the saints and  members of the household of God, 20  built on the foundation of the  apostles and prophets,  Christ Jesus himself being  the cornerstone,   ESV
We who have received Christ are not fellow "dependent" citizens and members of the household of God.  I ask you to think about one phrase in particular in these verses. "built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone."  Yes, our foundation is Christ, but how do we know about it, how is it reinforced, built up if not by His Word?

R.C. Sproul writes, "Without the Word of God, we do not have access to the teaching of the Saviour, and so Christians must always be known as a people of the Book; men and women who believe and proclaim the teaching of the Old and New Testaments.  Understanding the teaching is a lifelong process of reading scripture, hearing it preached, encouraging other believers, and more.  Are you doing all that you can to learn the Word of God.?"

Do you depend on His Word?

That thought brought me to an old Andre Crouch song, "Through it All".  I'll share some of the lines today.  As you celebrate this Independence Day of our country, may you also celebrate the "dependence day" in your walk with Christ.

I've Had Many Tears And Sorrows,
I've Had Questions For Tomorrow,
there's Been Times I Didn't Know Right From Wrong.
but In Every Situation,
god Gave Me Blessed Consulation,
that My Trials Come To Only Make Me Strong.

chorus:
through It All,
through It All,
i've Learned To Trust In Jesus,
i've Learned To Trust In God.

through It All,
through It All,
i've Learned To Depend Upon His Word.

In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV

Eph 2:13-22
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were  far off have been brought near  by the blood of Christ. 14 For  he himself is our peace,  who has made us both one and has broken down  in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments and  ordinances, that he might create in himself one  new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might  reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. 17 And he came and  preached peace to you who were  far off and peace to those who were  near. 18 For  through him we both have  access in  one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer  strangers and aliens, but you are  fellow citizens with the saints and  members of the household of God, 20  built on the foundation of the  apostles and prophets,  Christ Jesus himself being  the cornerstone, 21  in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into  a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him  you also are being built together  into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
