Verse of the Day - weekend 7/16

Through the Bible - Psalms 16-19, Acts 12: - 13:25

In yesterday's verse we considered Paul's statement that "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation".  The old has been replaced with something new.  A new perspective, a new outlook, a new hope and a new destination for eternity.

For this weekend's verse we'll go to Ephesians chapter 4.  In Ephesians 1 - 3 Paul has been teaching some of the basic doctrines of Christianity, now , heading into chapter 4, he is transitioning to the application of these principles.  MacArthur states that it it "from doctrine to duty, principle to practice, position to behavior.

Eph 4:1  Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.  NLT

What he is saying is, you've learned it now live it.  You've been called.  If you've truly accepted the call live a life that shows it.

Read the passage from The Message that goes by the heading "To Be Mature".

Eph 4:1-3  In light of all this, here's what I want you to do. While I'm locked up here, a prisoner for the Master, I want you to get out there and walk — better yet, run! — on the road God called you to travel. I don't want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don't want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline — not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences.

The NKJV puts it "walk worthy" it fits in well with what The Message says, that we should be walking " steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences. For the sake of the call.

In preparation for worship this weekend, read or sing the words to the Steven Curtis Chapman song "For the Sake of the Call".

Drawn like the rivers are drawn to the sea
No turning back for the water cannot help but flow
Once we hear the Savior's call we'll follow wherever he leads
Because of the love He has shown
And because he has called us to go we will answer

We will abandon it all for the sake of the call
No other reason at all but the sake of the call
Wholly devoted to live and to die

Not for the sake of a creed or a cause
Not for a dream or a promise
Simply because it is Jesus who calls
And if we believe we'll obey

In Christ,
Mike
