Verse of the Day 2/14

Verse of the Day 2/14
Psalm 55:6(NIV)  I said, "Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
   I would fly away and be at rest.
I had planned yesterday to send this verse out today, that was before I woke up with the stomach flu.  It really knocked me down but gave me another reason to look at the verse.
Doves are hunted not so much for the meat, there's very little of it, but for the challenge.  (Don't worry, I've never gone dove hunting).  They are quick to flight, fast in flight and agile.  I think that David could relate to feeling like a dove, his life was full of challenges.  At times he wished that he could fly away, flee from danger like a dove.  The story of his life was how he faced them, not always right away, but he would persevere and be a "see througher" and not a "look at-er" in dealing with the troubles he faced.  He didn't face them on his own, He realized that it was the Lord that went before him whether it be taking on Goliath or being persued by King Saul.
I wished I could have flown away from my problems, but I couldn't.  What are the challenges that have faced or are facing you today?  Do you wish you could fly away?  You may think of that, but instead why don't you turn your eye's upon Jesus.  He make you a see through-er.
The praise band for our youth group threw a change up as us the other night.  They played some old gospel songs, including "I'll Fly Away".  I can't remember the leaders and kids reacting with more enthusiasm.  No matter what we may face, one day, we will fly away.
Some glad morning when this life is o'er,
I'll fly away;
To a home on God's celestial shore,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

Chorus
I'll fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away; (in the morning)
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away).

When the shadows of this life have gone,
I'll fly away;
Like a bird from prison bars has flown,
I'll fly away (I'll fly away)
Psalm 90:10 (NIV)Our days may come to seventy years,
   or eighty, if our strength endures;
yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow,
   for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
In Christ,
Mike

Psalm 55

New International Version (NIV)    For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A maskil of David.
 1 Listen to my prayer, O God,
   do not ignore my plea;
 2 hear me and answer me.
My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught
 3 because of what my enemy is saying,
   because of the threats of the wicked;
for they bring down suffering on me
   and assail me in their anger.
 4 My heart is in anguish within me;
   the terrors of death have fallen on me.
5 Fear and trembling have beset me;
   horror has overwhelmed me.
6 I said, "Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
   I would fly away and be at rest.

7 I would flee far away
   and stay in the desert;
8 I would hurry to my place of shelter,
   far from the tempest and storm."
