Verse of the Day 4/24

1 Peter 1:18-19(NIV)  For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

There are many events this time of year and throughout the year that are centered around raising money for a "cure".  I'm sure you have seen promotional information in this regard for breast cancer and many other diseases and illnesses..  People will donate time and money in varying degrees.   But often those who give most, who devote their lives to a cause do so because they have lost someone close to them to that particular disease.

I read the following quote in "Of First Importance" this morning:
"Knowing the cure tells you a lot about the gravity of the disease. In the cross we see what was needed to cure the wound of sin, and we see what lengths God was willing to go to cure it. Thus we see its true character as something so reprehensible to God, as something so unfit for inclusion in God's covenant kingdom, that his own Son must suffer. And finally, it is then that we see God's character as the one who goes all the way, who bears the full burden of the covenant upon himself. We see a love beyond all love."— Michael D. Williams

All of this serves as a reminder of the price that was paid by Jesus to cure us from what would separate us from Him, our sin.  Spend some time considering this today along with the following words from Rock of Ages. How should we live in light of this "double cure"?

Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee; let the water and the blood, from thy wounded side which flowed, be of sin the double cure; save from wrath and make me pure.
In Christ,
Mike

Eph 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace  NIV

1 Peter 1:17-21 New International Version (NIV)

17 Since you call on a Father who judges each person's work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
