Verse of the Day 4/3

1 Peter 2:24-25 (NLT) He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right.  By his woun you are healed.
Once you were like sheep who wandered away.  But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.

Later this week we will observe Good Friday.  Some of us will have the day off from school or work and will be able to enjoy a long weekend, or catch up on some yard work or perhaps some recreational activity.  Few of us will think of what Jesus went through on that Good Friday.  Today's verses should be a good reminder to us and should gives us reason to pause and consider just what He has done and what was accomplished for us.

Many look at Jesus life as an example, as a pattern to go by to live this life.  That is a good thing.  But what we will be celebrating is that He was and is a substitute.  He took our place, took the penalty for our sins our wrongdoings.  His doing so is what allows us to have a right relationship to Him if we come to Him, submit to Him in faith.

Are you one that had wandered away but now have turned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls?  If so, rejoice in it and what has been accomplished for you.  Remember it all week long.  It should bring you greater joy and thanksgiving as you celebrate on Easter Sunday that He is risen, He is risen indeed.

In Christ,
Mike

1 Peter 2:21-25  New Living Translation (NLT)

21 For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.

22 He never sinned,
    nor ever deceived anyone.
23 He did not retaliate when he was insulted,
nor threaten revenge when he suffered.
He left his case in the hands of God,
    who always judges fairly.
24 He personally carried our sins
in his body on the cross
so that we can be dead to sin
and live for what is right.
By his wounds
    you are healed.
25 Once you were like sheep
    who wandered away.
But now you have turned to your Shepherd,
    the Guardian of your souls.
