Verse of the Day 5/20

Luke 6:45 (NLT) A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

After considering verses about living water,  being filled with the Spirit, and being channels through which they flow, today's verse may be a humbling one for us.  Take a look back over the past 24 hours, this past week or beyond and do an inventory of what has come out of your mouth and what your actions have been. Perhaps we should also take a look back at what we've been filling our minds and hearts with over that time.  You will see a correlation.

My study Bible had no notes on this verse.  Could it be because it is so straight forward?

Take a look also at the world around us.  What do you hear?  Politicians slinging mud at each other, some trying to stir things up, to create discord, envy, or worse among the people they claim to serve or desire to serve.

Before we come down to hard on them, take another look at our words and actions.  May we make a commitment to spend more time in His Word, fill up the treasury of our hearts to the point of overflowing so that what comes out may be pleasing to God and accomplish His purposes.

Hebrews 10:24  (ESV) And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,

In Christ,
Mike

Luke 6:43-45 (ESV) A Tree and Its Fruit

43 "For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, 44 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. 45  The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
