Verse of the Day 5/24

 Psalm 56:3-4 (NIV) When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
    In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid.

David was familiar with being tracked down, hunted whether by the Philistines or his own King Saul.  While he feared he still trusted the Lord God, mightier than anything, any king or kingdom here on earth.  His trust and his testimony in that time should be an encouragement to us as we go through our valleys, our trials in life.

Sometimes it may feel like we are being "hunted down" with the pressures of illness, unemployment, relationships and other things.  I have some friends that are going through some deep waters, tough trials right now.  While they may still fear the unknown, they still trust in God, and that trust like David's is an encouragement for others.  For David, that source of strength was in His God and He found that strength in His Word.  We have so much more of His Word available to us today in the Old and New Testaments.  May we, like David find solace there.

Another verse from Psalm 119 and a the words to a song that go along with it come to mind.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.

When I feel afraid,
And think I?ve lost my way.
Still, you?re there right beside me.
Nothing will I fear
As long as you are near;
Please be near me to the end.

Blessings,
Mike

Psalm 56  (NIV)

For the director of music. To the tune of "A Dove on Distant Oaks." Of David. A miktam.[b] When the Philistines had seized him in Gath.

Be merciful to me, my God,
    for my enemies are in hot pursuit;
    all day long they press their attack.
My adversaries pursue me all day long;
    in their pride many are attacking me.

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
    In God, whose word I praise—
in God I trust and am not afraid.
    What can mere mortals do to me?

All day long they twist my words;
    all their schemes are for my ruin.
They conspire, they lurk,
    they watch my steps,
    hoping to take my life.
Because of their wickedness do not[c] let them escape;
    in your anger, God, bring the nations down.

Record my misery;
    list my tears on your scroll[d]
    are they not in your record?
Then my enemies will turn back
    when I call for help.
    By this I will know that God is for me.

10 In God, whose word I praise,
    in the Lord, whose word I praise—
11 in God I trust and am not afraid.
    What can man do to me?

12 I am under vows to you, my God;
    I will present my thank offerings to you.
13 For you have delivered me from death
    and my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before God
    in the light of life.
