Verse of the Day 11/15

 Ephesians 2:17  And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.  (ESV)

Yesterday we considered how the rebuilding of walls, hearts and lives came about through the preaching of the gospel.  Today's verse from Ephesians 2 tells us about a significant aspect of this gospel message, peace.  It is a message that is given to those who are far off and also so very near to the gospel, near to the heart of God if they would only accept it.

It is a peace that can lift you out of and above your circumstances and a peace that can carry you through your circumstances even if deliverance from the problems at hand may not be foreseeable.  There are any number of things that can drag us down, illnesses, loss of loved ones, strained relationships but Jesus offers peace to us in, throughout, and out of those circumstances.

Joys are flowing like a river,
Since the Comforter has come;
He abides with us forever,
Makes the trusting heart His home.
Refrain

Blessèd quietness, holy quietness,
What assurance in my soul!
On the stormy sea, He speaks peace to me,
How the billows cease to roll!

If your heart is in turmoil this morning, may He calm your storm and bring you peace.

Blessings,
Mike

Ephesians 2:16-18  Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

16 He did this so that He might reconcile both to God in one body through the cross and put the hostility to death by it. 17 When the Messiah came, He proclaimed the good news of peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
