Verse of the Day 10/3

 
Ephesians 5:1-2Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us[ and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.  New Living Translation (NLT)
 
In 1980 the J Geils Band released a hit song "Love Stinks".  It is about a broken relationship, loss of love, and hearts that have been divided and broken.  When the New Testament was written, there were no chapters and verses.  Yesterday's passage flowed right into today's.  Yesterday's passage spoke of harsh words, bitterness, anger and fits of rage.  These are the things that can break up any relationship.  These kinds of actions truly stink.  They have no place in our hearts, especially towards those whom we claim to love.
 
Today's verses challenge us to act, to live and to love differently.  Be imitators of God, of Jesus, show love,compassion, tenderness.  Read the Bible, read through the Gospels, see how Jesus lived and learn "proper behavior " (v.1 The Message).  If we show those kinds of actions in towards others we may change what others think of the love that we share and of the love of God.  Love won't stink, it will be a pleasing aroma.
 
This would be good advice for us today and any day - "Wake up from your sleep - watch what God does and then do it.  Not cautious but extravagant...love like that". (The Message).

Wake Up from Your Sleep

1-2 Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love you. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn't love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.
