Verse of the Day 10/9

Deuteronomy 13:4 You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him.  English Standard Version (ESV)

Yesterday we considered in Proverbs 4 how we are to remain attentive to God's Word, to keep it, keep Him in sight and in our thoughts and actions.  This morning I read this verse and a devotionals that were on the subject of walking with God.  To walk with someone should mean that you are attentive of each other.  The prophet Amos asked "Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?"

Can you walk after God unless you are in agreement with Him?  To agree you need to know Him and how do we get to know Him but by spending time with Him in His Word and in prayer?  To walk with Him, to walk after Him, to keep in step with Him could be considered to be walking by the Spirit.  in Galatians 5:25 Paul states, "Since we live by the Spirit let us keep in step with the Spirit."

Greg Laurie writes,"But what does this mean in practice?  How do we do this?  What does this look like to "keep in step with the Spirit?  It means we take time for the things of God.  It means that when we get up in the morning we take time to read the Bible.  If we neglect the word of God it will show in our lives.  Abiding in Jesus also means that we spend time in fellowship with God's people."

Walking with God, following Him, and keeping in step with Him means to trust and obey.

When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way;
While we do His good will,
  He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey,
For there's no other way,
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
  .

Blessings,
Mike

Deuteronomy 13:1-4The Message (MSG)

13 1-4 When a prophet or visionary gets up in your community and gives out a miracle-sign or wonder, and the miracle-sign or wonder that he gave out happens and he says, "Let's follow other gods" (these are gods you know nothing about), "let's worship them," don't pay any attention to what that prophet or visionary says. God, your God, is testing you to find out if you totally love him with everything you have in you. You are to follow only God, your God, hold him in deep reverence, keep his commandments, listen obediently to what he says, serve him—hold on to him for dear life!
