Verse of the Day 10/8

Verse of the Day 10/8

Proverbs 4:20-22 My son, be attentive to my words;
    incline your ear to my sayings.  21 Let them not escape from your sight;
    keep them within your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.  English Standard Version (ESV).

Normally, I'll limit the "verse of the day" to one or two verses, but reading these verses from Proverbs 4, I found it hard to break them up.  Perhaps you can remember back to your childhood, sitting in school and your mind would drift to a beautiful day outside where there were plenty of better things to do, or perhaps wishing you could be home watching the world series (they played day games in the series back then.)  We would not be paying attention and suddenly the teacher would call on us and we would be brought back to reality.

It is easy at times to "drift away" from God in our lives.  With all that is going on it easy easy to miss a day in His Word, which then can become days or weeks (I'll stop there).  But something may come along in our lives to "snap us out of it" and catch our attention and bring our minds back to where they should be, on God, His Word and what He has for us.

Today's verses call us, challenge us to be attentive, to "incline" lean towards (tune your ears towards His voice - The Message)His words, to listen, keep them before us, in our sight and in our minds.  God's word has the power to bring life , life as it should be and healing.  Does His Word have your attention today?

Blessings,
Mike

Proverbs 4:20-27The Message (MSG)

Learn It by Heart

20-22 Dear friend, listen well to my words;
    tune your ears to my voice.
Keep my message in plain view at all times.
    Concentrate! Learn it by heart!
Those who discover these words live, really live;
    body and soul, they're bursting with health.
23-27 Keep vigilant watch over your heart;
    that's where life starts.
Don't talk out of both sides of your mouth;
    avoid careless banter, white lies, and gossip.
Keep your eyes straight ahead;
    ignore all sideshow distractions.
Watch your step,
    and the road will stretch out smooth before you.
Look neither right nor left;
    leave evil in the dust.
