Verse of the Day 3/15

Psalm 107:1-2 Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
whom he has redeemed from trouble   English Standard Version (ESV)

Today's verse came up in the course of my daily readings in the Psalms.  It fits in well with the thoughts that we have been considering over the past few days, to contest for the faith, to grow in our faith and a verse that I had considered using today, also from Peters letters where we are called to "always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you."  1 Peter 3:15.  It is done in an attitude of thanksgiving for what He has done, His great love toward us, and how He has delivered us in our trials and will deliver us ultimately to our future home in glory.  All of us who call on the name of the Lord have received God's goodness and everlasting mercy.

The rest of the psalm gives us a glimpse of some of the things that people through the ages have been and are being delivered from physically, figuratively and spiritually  -  1) wandering in the wilderness (v. 4-9)   2) languishing in prison - (V. 10-16), 3) enduring sickness (v.17-22), 4)) being tossed on a stormy sea (v. 23-32).  Which of these can you relate to?  Most of us have wandered at some point, or languished in times of doubt, endured sickness, and been tempest tossed in the storms of life.  But we can praise Him because we've been delivered and it is in the power of Christ that we stand and can tell of it.

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

Let the redeemed of the Lord, "all of you set free by God, tell the world".  (The Message)

In Christ,

Mike

Psalm 107:1-3The Message (MSG)

107 1-3 Oh, thank God—he's so good!
    His love never runs out.
All of you set free by God, tell the world!
Tell how he freed you from oppression,
Then rounded you up from all over the place,
from the four winds, from the seven seas.
