Verse of the Day 3/7

Psalm 20:7-8 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
8 They collapse and fall,
but we rise and stand upright.  English Standard Version (ESV)

On the last leg of our vacation Jean and I drove to Naples Florida to visit her mom.  While there we went out to lunch and returning to our car I saw a beautiful Ferrari.  Sleek, elegant, and powerful with the Ferrari emblem of a powerful horse rising up on two feet, ready to take off at full gallop.

Naples is located in one of the wealthiest counties in the country.  Many living there are concerned of appearance, whether it be their own looks, the cars they drive, or the "palaces" where they live.  There security is found in their finances and the things that they are able to buy with them.

Today's verses are a reminder to us that we are not to put our trust, our confidence in the things of earth that rust, break down or that others will seek to steel or destroy.  We are to put our trust in the Lord God.

The verses actually reference a nation and where it puts its faith and trust.  It is a reminder that we as individuals need to make the Lord a priority in our lives and to live lives as examples as witnesses of God's strength, provision and guidance.  Personally and nationally, it is He who gives us the strength to rise and stand upright while others collapse and fall.  The key is, are we putting our faith and trust in Him or other "horses and chariots" that  will some day break down and become worthless.

Where we put our faith and trust will determine our mission in life.  Instead of chasing after things it should be to love the Lord our God and to live for Him.  "To love the Lord our God Is the heartbeat of our mission The spring from which our service overflows Across the street Or around the world The mission's still the same Proclaim and live the Truth In Jesus' name."  (Steve Green - The Mission).

In Christ,
Mike

Psalm 20:6-8New Living Translation (NLT)

Now I know that the Lord rescues his anointed king.
He will answer him from his holy heaven
and rescue him by his great power.
Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.
Those nations will fall down and collapse,
but we will rise up and stand firm.
