Verse of the Day 3/21

Luke 19:9-10  And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."  English Standard Version (ESV)

Today's verses come from Luke 19 and from the  familiar story of Zacchaeus.  The story brings a  smile to my face as I recall the song that many of us probably learned in Sunday School years (too many years) ago.   "Zachaeus was a wee  little man a wee  little man was he, he climbed up in a sycamore tree for the Lord he wanted to see, and as the Savior passed that way He looked  up in the tree ....and He said Zacchaeus "YOU COME DOWN" for I'm going to your house today, going to your house to stay."  I remember that we sang the part "YOU COME DOWN" emphatically, yet not realizing through the years

Zachaeus had gone out looking for Jesus.  He wanted to see Him, find out what this commotion was all about. But when we look more closely at the passage we realize that even though Zachaeus didn't realize it, Jesus had the appoint ment with him telling the little man that "I'm coming to your house today".  He invited Himself into his house and once He arrived this little man was changed, his heart was changed and became filled with gratitude and generosity.

How many times since the day we first met Jesus have we thought that we were searching for, wanting to have a conversation with Jesus, when in reality, it was Jesus who made the divine appointment??  When He calls us to come down  or get up, do we respond? Hopefully, it  is with the same kind  of gratitude and generosity towards others.

In Christ,
Mike

Luke 19:5-10The Message (MSG)

5-7 When Jesus got to the tree, he looked up and said, "Zacchaeus, hurry down. Today is my day to be a guest in your home." Zacchaeus scrambled out of the tree, hardly believing his good luck, delighted to take Jesus home with him. Everyone who saw the incident was indignant and grumped, "What business does he have getting cozy with this crook?"

Zacchaeus just stood there, a little stunned. He stammered apologetically, "Master, I give away half my income to the poor—and if I'm caught cheating, I pay four times the damages."

9-10 Jesus said, "Today is salvation day in this home! Here he is: Zacchaeus, son of Abraham! For the Son of Man came to find and restore the lost."
