Verse of the Day 3/4

Proverbs 4:7Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding.  New King James Version (NKJV)

As I read this verse in the NKJV translation, what caught my attention was the statement "and in all your getting".  It encompasses so much of what is going on in our society, "getting", accumulating, and hoarding.

We were on a cruise last week and at every port of entry, one of the first things you would see were jewelry stores, full of diamonds, and other "duty free" shops where people could avoid paying taxes.  People are literally travelling the world in search of the best deal on a diamond or something else so that they can go home and brag about it.

I've heard it said and passed it along before that an important aspect in true success is to know the main thing and to keep the main thing the main thing.  Today's verse gives us a good picture of that.  We should be more concerned about wisdom, true wisdom as is found in the Bible.  We should receive guidance and direction from God's Word and apply His wisdom in our lives.  How far and how much time are we willing to devote to finding it.

Read the passage from The Message below.  May we never walk away from God's wisdom, instead, may our attitude be as found in this passage:
"Throw your arms around her—believe me, you won't regret it;
never let her go—she'll make your life glorious."

I'm reminded of a line from a Matt Redman song, "Oh no, never let go, through the calm and through the storm".  May that be the case in whatever port we find ourselves in today.

In Christ,
Mike

Proverbs 4:3-9The Message (MSG)

3-9 When I was a boy at my father's knee,
    the pride and joy of my mother,
He would sit me down and drill me:
    "Take this to heart. Do what I tell you—live!
Sell everything and buy Wisdom! Forage for Understanding!
    Don't forget one word! Don't deviate an inch!
Never walk away from Wisdom—she guards your life;
    love her—she keeps her eye on you.
Above all and before all, do this: Get Wisdom!
    Write this at the top of your list: Get Understanding!
Throw your arms around her—believe me, you won't regret it;
    never let her go—she'll make your life glorious.
She'll garland your life with grace,
    she'll festoon your days with beauty."
