Verse of the Day 9/9

Genesis 1:3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.  English Standard Version (ESV)

A couple of nights ago I had the  opportunity to drop in and  visit  my son, daughter in law and family and see their new home.  While taking  a tour of their home my granddaughter Ava wanted to show me her room.  She wanted to show me how she could turn on the light.  The switch was higher than most light switches are, so try as she might, up on her tip toes she just couldn't flip the switch.  She put her arms up signaling me to lift her up to do it.  She willed that the light would come  on, but without assistance from someone she just couldn't do it.

When God created the heavens and the earth, He started with light.  He didn't need an electrician, He didn't need any assistance.  He willed it and it happened, light appeared and displaced the darkness.  We can have the will, the desire for things but lack the power in ourselves to bring it about.  But when God wills it, it will happen.  This happens in creation but also in our own hearts.  God speaks to our hearts and the light bulb come on.  We read in the Bible that God knew us before we were born and had a plan for us.  His plans included  us.

Rick Warren writes, "This is how much God loves and values you! God is not haphazard; He planned it all with great precision. The more physicists, biologists, and other scientists learn about the universe, the better we understand how it is uniquely suited for our existence, custom-made with the exact specifications that make human life possible."

Take some time to think of creation, starting with light, this weekend.  May we praise Him for light and that Jesus is the light of the world whom God sent to save us and deliver us from "inky blackness"  (The Message).  He planned it in ages past.

Genesis 1:1-5The Message (MSG)

Heaven and Earth

1-2 First this: God created the Heavens and Earth—all you see, all you don't see. Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness. God's Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss.

3-5 God spoke: "Light!"
        And light appeared.
God saw that light was good
        and separated light from dark.
    God named the light Day,
        he named the dark Night.
It was evening, it was morning—
    Day One.
