Verse of the Day 3/7

Verse of the Day 3/7

Psalm 46:7 The Lord of hosts is with us;

The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. New King James Version (NKJV)

We've recently considered how we are to cast our cares upon God, because He cares for us. (1 Peter 3:7). With that knowledge comes the confidence that He is with us wherever we are and where ever we may go. The Lord of hosts as it says in today's verse, the Lord of the angel armies, He is with us and is our refuge. The word "Selah" at the end of the verse is a call to pause and think calmly of that.

A little further in the passage we come to the familiar verse 10 and "Be still and know that I am God". The word I'd like to focus on there is know. We are to take it to heart, know it experientially, not just a head knowledge. As a child we probably sand "Jesus loves me this I know". We sang it, we believed it. But sometimes as we grow older we may stray from that close relationship and may overlook or forget and not think about that fact.

I read the following in a devotional for seniors today which addressed this.

"How easily we lose our sense of wonder before God. With age comes experience and wisdom, but if you're not careful, it can also dull your sense of who God truly is. And when you can't see God for who He is, your entire vision is skewed.....Remember God's awesomeness each day – because it's in that childlike sense of wonder and submission that God raises you up to the full strength of who He created you to be, and what He's called you to do."

May our senses not be dulled enough to forget "Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so."

Stop, think calmly about that and praise God for that fact. Know that He is God, He is our refuge and strong tower and mighty fortress.

Blessings,

Mike

Psalm 46:7-11 New International Version (NIV)

7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields[a] with fire.
10 He says, "Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
