Verse of the Day 3/10

Verse of the Day 3/10

John 4:23-24  But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."    New King James Version (NKJV)

What worship is, what the word means, in today's society,  is probably one of many that have strayed far from what it meant ages ago or perhaps even just a few generations ago.  Commonly, worship is thought of in terms of something we do at a place, a church; or it means a praise band playing contemporary music; or is something that we experience along with something we do such as lifting our hands; or it may be putting money in the offering basket or giving to a missions project.  It can be, it can involve all of these things.

Charles Spurgeon helps bring worship back into perspective as he writes:

"If He were a material deity--then I might bring Him fruits, and flowers, and music, and so forth.

If He were a God of religious ritual--then I might deck myself with crosses, burn candles to Him, and waft incense in His honor.

But our God is a Spirit who rejoices more in the falling tear, the upheaved sigh, the heart prayer, and the heart praise, which "the common people" render unto Him--than in all the decorations and symphonies and temples of a man-made ritual."

God desires our worship and what He desires is worship from the heart.  From our hearts, and yes singing is a part of it.

Praise the Savior, ye who know Him!
Who can tell how much we owe Him?
Gladly let us render to Him
  All we are and have.
2
Jesus is the name that charms us;
He for conflicts fits and arms us;
Nothing moves and nothing harms us
  When we trust in Him.
3
Trust in Him, ye saints, forever;
He is faithful, changing never;
Neither force nor guile can sever
  Those He loves from Him.

John 4:21-26 New King James Version (NKJV)

21 Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

25 The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things."

26 Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."
