Verse of the Day 3/11

Verse of the Day 3/11

Deuteronomy 7:9 You know that the Lord your God is the only true God. So love him and obey his commands, and he will faithfully keep his agreement with you and your descendants for a thousand generations.  Contemporary English Version (CEV)

My daily Bible readings this year have been in the Contemporary English Version.  The first two words of today's verse jumped out at me as I read the verse, they are in small case but caught my attention as if in bold letters "YOU KNOW".  The meaning isn't changed from the ESV (below) it was just stated differently.  For the Christian; for a God follower they should be the basis for how we live this moment, this day and for the rest of our lives.  We know that there is only one true God; we know that He is faithful and will keep His promises; and we know that He doesn't change.

He has chosen you; He has chosen me for a purpose and we are to seek His will and to live for His purposes because we know Him.

I know that I've posted this hymn recently, however, reading today's verse and passage below, I was reminded of it again.

1 Praise the Savior, ye who know Him!
Who can tell how much we owe Him?
Gladly let us render to Him
all we are and have.

2 Jesus is the name that charms us;
He for conflict fits and arms us;
nothing moves and nothing harms us
while we trust in Him.

3 Trust in Him, ye saints, forever;
He is faithful, changing never;
neither force nor guile can sever
those He loves from Him.

4 Keep us, Lord, O keep us cleaving
to Thyself, and still believing,
till the hour of our receiving
promised joys with Thee.

Think of or sing the lines of this hymn with the backdrop of this verse in mind.  Praise Him that this is not only for us but for a thousand generations of those who believe and trust in Him because "He is faithful, changing never".

Blessings,

Mike

Deuteronomy 7:6-11 English Standard Version (ESV)

"For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, 10 and repays to their face those who hate him, by destroying them. He will not be slack with one who hates him. He will repay him to his face. 11 You shall therefore be careful to do the commandment and the statutes and the rules that I command you today.
