Verse of the Day 4/7

Verse of the Day 4/7

2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.   English Standard Version (ESV)

Times like these can make us realize that we cannot solve or fix everything on our own as individuals, a country or a global society. They are beyond this and in times and ages past, times like these would cause people to turn to God, the Creator of all things; who knows all things in prayer to bring deliverance from the current trial. In Matthew chapter 6 Jesus is asked by His disciples to "teach us to pray". He starts out by saying "when you pray", prayer should be a given, at all times and in all situations. Then notice each of the requests, they are not for ourselves individually, they are all "our Father" and "give us". It is not give me this and that. I believe that it is in keeping with a situation such as we face today. We are praying for our families, community, country and our world to bring a cure. God has the cure for what ails our world and He has the cure to deliver us not only from a virus, but more importantly from our sins. The following comes from the"NIV Journey Bible". "You will face deep anguish in your life — everyone does. When that happens, you can do what Jesus did: pray. Pray hard, pray deep, pray honestly, pray out all your feelings. Pray until you sweat and cry and fall down in exhaustion. Pray with others. Pray alone. Pray as long as it takes — and then pray longer. Pray because nothing else works, and keep praying when it doesn't seem to work. Pray because Jesus prayed, pray because you want to pray, pray because you don't want to pray. Pray out loud, pray quietly. Pray whenever you think about it, pray instead of just thinking about it. Pray when you walk and when you drive and when you wake up and when you go to sleep. Pray before you forget. Pray right now." God said in today's verse "if my people". If we are His people we should be praying this way, and turning from our own ways to seek His. Instead of posting the passage from 2 Chronicles, I'll post the Lord's prayer from Matthew 6. Read it and pray in such a manner that "our" God would answer "us" as "we" pray for healing and deliverance from this virus.

Matthew 6:5-14 English Standard Version (ESV)

The Lord's Prayer

"And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

"And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this:

"Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.[a]
10 Your kingdom come,
your will be done,[b]
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread,[c]
12 and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.[d]

14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,
