Verse of the Day 1/25

Isaiah 45:5-6English Standard Version

5 I am the Lord, and there is no other,

    besides me there is no God;
    I equip you, though you do not know me,
6 that people may know, from the rising of the sun
    and from the west, that there is none besides me;
    I am the Lord, and there is no other.

I read today's verses in a devotional this morning and they caught my attention as they should for any Christian who reads them.  They serve as a reminder of who God is and who we are not.  He is the Creator we are created, He has formed us (Jeremiah 1:5) and the verses remind us also that He has equipped us to do what He has called us to do.  He has revealed Himself to us that we may know Him.  Think about that for a moment.  He has called us to know HIm.

Read the passage below and consider that He has created light and darkness, He send the clouds and the rain, He brings salvation and causes the earth to bring forth fruit, physically and spiritually.  May it cause us to respond to Him, great are you Lord!

You give life, You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore
Every heart that is broken

Great are You, Lord

It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise

To You only

Let the verses, let the song above ring in your heart and mind, acknowledge that our God alone is God.  There is none other and no one, no thing can take His place.  Pour out your praise to Him only.

Cyrus, God's Instrument

45 Thus says the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus,
    whose right hand I have grasped,
to subdue nations before him
    and to loose the belts of kings,
to open doors before him
    that gates may not be closed:
2 "I will go before you
    and level the exalted places,[a]
I will break in pieces the doors of bronze
    and cut through the bars of iron,
3 I will give you the treasures of darkness
    and the hoards in secret places,
that you may know that it is I, the Lord,
    the God of Israel, who call you by your name.
4 For the sake of my servant Jacob,
    and Israel my chosen,
I call you by your name,
    I name you, though you do not know me.
5 I am the Lord, and there is no other,
    besides me there is no God;
    I equip you, though you do not know me,
6 that people may know, from the rising of the sun

7 I form light and create darkness;
    I make well-being and create calamity;
    I am the Lord, who does all these things.
